When we were driving along the Great Ocean Road we could frequently observe helicopters circling through the air. To make this New Years Day a day to remember we decided to also take a tour to see the beautiful landscapes from above. So we stopped at one of the helicopter places and only had to wait for a very short time to hop on to the next helicopter. The tour took about 20min and it was just us two including the pilot of course, who also gave us as guided tour. It was a great feeling seeing everything from a birds eye perspective, a little bit like in a James Bond movie (ok, the speed of flying would have been a bit more spectacular, but it was still cool). We left Port Fairy after a nice breakfast around noontime and continued our travel on the beautiful Great Ocean Road – starting into the new year 2012. It was a really windy day but with great sunshine. The coastline is just breathtaking and if time would allow you could really stop behind every single turn to enjoy great coastal views.

Port Fairy is normally a sleepy little holiday town at the coast, but for New Years Eve they had set up a whole day program with activities. So in the morning we signed up John for the Backwards Race, which he proudly participated in. Later we lay out at the beach, bringing in a bit of activity with a game of Boules. For the evening we had booked a really nice New Year’s Dinner at an Italian restaurant, having at the same time a great view at the street parade. Waiting for the New Year to come we mixed with the Port Fairy teenagers at the Fun Fair and watched the fireworks.
